What are The Significant Arts? The Significant Arts are arts with political and social significance. This is a project which will span six weeks, with a two week hiatus for Spring Break, which seeks to encourage people to create artwork of this type. Each week will have it's own Topic that participants would be able to submit art in relation to.
Participants are also encouraged to submit artwork about any aspect of politics or society that they see fit. This category of artwork may, or may not, be eligible for extra credit, depending on the quality of the work and the teacher's criteria. Why does this project exist?During the American Labor Movement of the early 20th century, most of the art created with political and social significance were created by the common people, not established artists who got paid regularly for their work.
Today, the opposite seems to be true. It seems that today, people, even up and coming artists, decide to stray away from creating politically and socially art, leaving it up to the popular artists to do it for them. This is a huge problem. People seem to think that their opinion on current issues aren't important enough to express and are becoming more and more reluctant to share their view of the world through art. This project serves to encourage people to began making art with political and social significance again. If you are interested in participating in this project, please refer to Submit Art to get the specific details. Why will happen with all of the artwork? The artwork will be published on multiple platforms, including, but limited to, this website, an official Facebook page, a Deviantart account, an ebook that will be available for free download, and a few less popular iTunes apps.
